Looking Back...

Looking back at 2024

NCT are proud to have been assisting local people who need our services to travel.  All our vehicles are wheelchair accessible and we are a charity with all our drivers being volunteers. With increasing economic demands to keep our vehicles compliant with legislation we do have to charge for our services, however as we are a charity we aim only to charge to keep our vehicles compliant with legislation.  We are not a profit lead business.  We are NCT a charity of over 50 years serving within Staffordshire.

The first person to travel in our WAV.  One of our regular and most admired travellers. A more compact ride for one wheelchair and two carers. A regular with medical appointments or just one person travelling to their destination.

Support groups, family visits, social occasions, shopping.  If it is necessary to your wellbeing and combats social isolation, it fits our charity purpose. Volunteer availability permitting, we will try to assist you.

Chris will be missed and remembered by all who met him. 24.01.1952 – 03.04.2026

Independence is important.  This loving couple use our services to enable them to travel together. Something not always possible if you book an ambulance transfer.

Our driver will be a phone call away after your medical appointments, or parking permitting for “quick check-ups” waiting outside.

“Travelling with NCT means me being able to keep my independence go on trips into town and to the shops”

“NCT were more than happy to work with Newcastle Young Police Cadets. Making a difference in the community. Supporting a sponsored walk for Alzheimer’s Research. Raising over £900.00 the young cadets showed tenacity and dedication in the gruelling muddy conditions along with others, dedicated to raising money for Alzheimer’s Research.”

Looking back at 2025

We are proud that we have not increased our charges to customers in the last 3 year. We have worked hard and wherever possible taken opportunity of not-for-profit pricing to deals ad discounts to keep our operating costs as low as possible whilst complying with all legislation to operate within our licence. We purchased another small car which transports four people or 1 wheelchair and carer. We secured 3 years of funding securing our services. Starting April 2026 from a grant application to The National Lottery Community Fund. Although we need our customer help again in providing data to evidence the benefits of our service to the community.  Enabling us to provide data through regular reports and to keep the funding for the full 3 years.

The charity will continue to grow, and we are now able to offer National training to our drivers after a period of volunteering with us. Neil is the first driver to complete this and his feedback ensure it is appropriate to offer this to our volunteers. Trying to ensure any continued income we now are part of “Easyfunding “. See the newsletter to shop online with major retailers, and they will donate to us. Again, as trustees we are proud to say we have not increased our costs to customers for the past 3 years and have no plans to do this. World events taken into account with oil prices it would be at a last resort only for us to increase our cost for travel.

A little of our 50+ year history can be evidenced in the governance section of the Public Register of Charities for England and Wales. Our old charity number and some history can be viewed if you search the public register. This is evidence that the charity funds were transferred, and the charity continued.
