What we do
We provide a wheelchair-friendly, door-to-door transport service covering Newcastle and the surrounding area.
Public buses and taxis often provide only a kerb to kerb service, and this can be a problem if you have mobility issues. Newcastle Community Transport (NCT) is different. Our friendly drivers can help you get to and from our minibuses. For the elderly and disabled, our door-to-door service can be a much-needed lifeline.
Thanks to us, our customers are able to:
- go shopping again
- enjoy meals out
- visit day centres, churches and social clubs
- enjoy day trips further afield, to destinations like Llandudno
Who we are
NCT is a well-known community charity. Founded in 1974, we have a long track record of helping local people with mobility issues. We rely on our brilliant volunteers to drive our minibuses and also look after the backroom jobs that keep us on the road.
The charity is funded through subscriptions, donations, affiliation fees, grants and legacies. Our generous sponsors include: The Big Lottery fund, the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, Staffs County Council, and Newcastle Rotary Club.
An elected committee oversees our work. Our committee members all live in Newcastle and the surrounding area, so they understand local needs and know where people want to go!

Our Renault Master and Peugeot Boxer vehicles are specially equipped with easy-to-use sliding doors, unfolding steps, and internal tail lifts. The Peugeot Boxer is our dedicated wheelchair carrier, with extra space inside for passengers with mobility issues. Our Peugeot and Renault vehicles are recent purchases, but we also have a trusty Ford Transit minibus. The Renault and Ford minibuses both have 12 seats, so that means there’s plenty of room if you’d like to hire us for a group outing.
We are proud to provide a safe, reliable transport service. The tail lifts and side steps on our vehicles are serviced every six months, while the minibuses themselves receive a full service every twelve months.
