About us

What we do

Based in Newcastle-under-Lyme NCT CIO is a transport service for the local community and surrounding areas within Staffordshire made possible by volunteer drivers and the local community.

We offer a transport service to people who find it difficult to access public transport and do not own their own vehicle.  This is a door- to- door service and each of our mini buses has a tail lift making the transport easily accessible for wheelchair users.  Our WAV is designed specifically to carry one wheelchair and two carers. Ideal for medical appointments, which helps to combat social exclusion.

Newcastle Community Transport CIO (NCT CIO) is different!

Our friendly drivers can help you get to and from venues. For the less mobile, elderly and people who struggle with hidden disabilities our door-to-door service can be a much-needed lifeline.

Our customers are once again able to:

  • go out shopping
  • attend support groups with members of their community
  • attend medical appointments
  • enjoy meals out in social settings
  • visit day centres, churches, and social clubs

Who we are

NCT CIO is a well-established community charity. Founded in 1974, we have a long track record of helping local people. We rely on our brilliant volunteers to drive our minibuses and look after the backroom jobs that keep us on the road. If our volunteer drivers are available, we will transport groups and/or individuals to your destination and return you home.

In 2024 we celebrate 50+ years of service in the community. 🎉

Our minibuses

Our Renault Master and Peugeot Boxer vehicles are specially equipped with easy-to-use sliding doors, unfolding steps, and internal tail lifts. The Peugeot Boxer is our dedicated wheelchair carrier, with extra space inside for passengers with mobility difficulties. Although both vehicles are accessible to all.

We are proud to provide a safe, reliable transport service. The tail lifts and side steps on our vehicles are serviced in line with government guidelines and LOLER requirements.  All DVLA requirements are met and Permit 19 guidelines adhered to. Our volunteer drivers all follow an induction process to ensure we are confident they follow our expectations for customer service and our customers being our first priority.

Our Team

NCT CIO is made up a small group of  wonderful volunteers and one staff member. We are always looking for new volunteers to support us, if you are interested please visit our volunteering page.
